Adapters, Plates, & Bushings

Torque Tool Adapters, Plates, and Bushings

A.K.O. has an extensive line of Torque Adapters, Plates and Bushings. These items are used to adapt ALL types of torque tools to fit into AKO’s Torque Transducers. As with most of AKO’s products, they are manufactured in-house, in our machine shop, for quality control. These rugged adapters, plates and bushings are made of hardened steel, and are designed to handle daily repetitive torque forces.

AKO offers many types of torque adapters and bushings with the most common being TSD340, TSD350, TSD362, TSD363 and TSD365. TSD340 square to hex adapters are used with an open-end or socket type wrench. TSD350 square to square adapters are used with wrenches that have a female square. TSD362 square bushing adapters are used to increase the size of the male square on a wrench. TSD363 run-down adapters are used with electric or pneumatic wrenches to simulate the field application of running down a bolt. TSD365 square reducing adapters are used to decrease the size of the male square on the wrench.

Adapter plates are used to provide a square or hex hole on pin-type AKO Torque Transducers. These plates are interchangeable and are available in many sizes.

TSD362

TSD362 torque adapterThe TSD362 square bushing adapters are used to reduce the size of the square hole in a torque transducer so that a wrench can fit into the proper size hole to perform a calibration. For example, a 3/8” drive torque wrench being calibrated on a torque transducer with a 1/2″ sized hole would need a TSD362 bushing, a TSD362-8-6. These torque adapters are made in-house from hardened alloy steel and designed to withstand the torque forces during calibration of torque tools on a daily basis. They come in many sizes and are also sold in kits that contain the most commonly used sizes.

TSD363

TSD363 torque adapterThe TSD363 run-down adapters are meant to simulate the application of tightening a bolt into a threaded hole. These are used to calibrate pneumatic wrenches and electric torque gun tools. These types of tools are used to quickly install bolts and should be calibrated with a run-down adapter for accurate torque measurement. The TSD363 torque adapter consists of a bolt that threads into a square bushing, and the bushing is installed into the square hole of a torque transducer. The bolt should be backed off a few threads before taking every reading to allow the tool’s motor to achieve its “running” speed prior to applying torque. These adapters can also be ordered with Belleville washers to simulate a soft joint. (TSD363-SJ Soft Joint)

TSD365

TSD365 torque adapterThe TSD365 square reducer bushing adapters are used to reduce the size of the square drive on a torque tool to allow it to fit into a smaller square on a torque transducer. For example, a 1/2″ drive torque wrench being calibrated on a torque transducer with a 3/8″ sized hole would need a TSD365 reducing adapter, a TSD365-8-6. These torque adapters are made in-house from hardened alloy steel and designed to withstand the torque forces during calibration of torque tools on a daily basis.

TSD1016-30

TSD1016-30 for torque tool calibrationThe TSD1016 Torque watch system is used to calibrate torque watches and torque screwdrivers. The TSD1016 uses a small hand-wheel to turn a worm gear which smoothly turns the tool being calibrated. The system uses different adapter plates, TSD1016-30’s, to hold the tool perfectly perpendicular to assure the operator is getting the most accurate readings. This allows for repeatable readings without having the operator influence the test results. There are many options of TSD1016-30 torque adapter plates designed to fit a wide variety of torque tools, with custom plates also available for specialized tools upon request.

This top plate can also be ordered with Belleville washers to simulate a soft joint.

TSD20005-H-4K

TSD20005-H-4K for torque tool calibrationThe TSD20005-H-4K is a top plate that fits onto the TSD20011 20,000 lbf·ft Torque Transducer that provides the pin pattern to stack a smaller transducer on top. This makes it easy to test smaller capacity torque tools on the same reaction stand that would be used for higher capacity torque tools. This is important because most torque calibration equipment should not be used below 10% of its capacity. Stacking a smaller capacity transducer on top of the larger capacity transducer increases the range of the calibration system, while meeting the criteria of ISO standards. The plate comes with clamps to secure the smaller transducer to the top plate which prevents the smaller transducer from lifting up, and eliminates side load.

TSD__235 Bridge Plates

TSD__235 for torque tool calibrationThese bridge plates are used to calibrate torque multipliers. The plate has many different hole patterns to accommodate pin type reaction torque multipliers, such as Sweeney or Norbar multipliers, and gear driven torque multipliers, such as ATP or Powerdyne torque tools. The holes will also accept Reaction pins to calibrate other reaction type torque multipliers as well. A version of this plate is also available for higher capacity systems.
